Room in the heart of Rome

The Pantheon in Rome is one of the most iconic and well-preserved monuments of ancient Rome, a masterpiece of engineering and architecture that continues to fascinate visitors from all over the world. Originally built as a temple to all the Roman gods, it was commissioned by Marcus Agrippa in 27 BC and later rebuilt by Emperor Hadrian around 118-125 AD. Its most impressive feature is the large hemispherical dome, with a diameter of 43.3 meters, which remains the largest unreinforced concrete dome in the world. At the center of the dome is a circular opening, the oculus, which allows natural light to enter, creating spectacular plays of light inside the temple. Since the 7th century, the Pantheon has been a Christian basilica, known as Santa Maria ad Martyres, and today houses the tombs of illustrious figures such as the painter Raphael. The combination of classical architectural elements and its thousand-year history make the Pantheon an extraordinary testimony to Roman genius and an enduring symbol of the Eternal City.
